Urban Greenery Research and Desert Development at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research – Salmiya, Overlooking the Arabian Gulf Road

2025-10-06

This project aims to establish an integrated and advanced site for research, education, and recreation. The facility seeks to promote sustainable urban greening initiatives, preserve desert ecosystems, and raise public environmental awareness, with a primary focus on engaging youth and children and achieving national biodiversity goals.

It also contributes to reducing water and energy consumption through efficient design and the use of renewable energy. The project provides long-term returns by lowering landscape maintenance costs through the use of native and adaptive plants, reducing external training expenses via local education and training, and stimulating the economy through eco-tourism and job creation in the green sector. Furthermore, it enables knowledge transfer and the training of national researchers and technicians.

The project is located in the dense urban coastal area of Salmiya, overlooking the Arabian Gulf Road. The site is divided into two plots: the eastern and western plots, with a combined total area of approximately 54,000 square meters, making it one of the largest intensive landscaping and greening projects.

The project will be awarded LEED certification in recognition of its high level of commitment to environmental and sustainability standards.

The role of the Kuwait Green Wall Society is to contribute to the rehabilitation, planting, and maintenance of the agricultural basins within the project.
